This was our moon landing-themed entry into this year’s annual Hambleton Scarecrow Festival display. We gave ourselves 10 out of 10 for originality!
The local village of Hambleton hosts an annual scarecrow festival with prizes awarded for the most creative, original, and amusing entries.
Last year the theme was “holidays” and Willowgrove entered for the first-ever time. We won first prize in the business category for our “Good old British Seaside Holiday” scarecrow display. This year’s scarecrow festival theme was “History.”
Garry and Jane, the Park Managers worked with a team of resident volunteers to brainstorm ideas for this year’s competition. Willowgrove caravan owner and local artist Yvonne Wallace skillfully painted the backdrops. Caravan owners Brian Parker, Brian Kirk, and Carol Parker also gave up their time to make and dress the scarecrows!
“We chose the Apollo moon landings of 1969. We love the idea of making scarecrow spacemen as we don’t think anyone else will replicate it! I hope this year’s display gives our residents a chuckle as they drive in and out of the park!”
